I did not like it.
I liked it.
I thought it one of the Best Novels of All Time

Here's a weird coincidence.  I received this book in the mail at the same time that Laurel bought Jonathan Coe's The Winshaw Legacy.  Both covers have a blonde woman pictured on them, and they look like they could be the same woman, portrayed by different artists.  Creepy, eh?

woman from cover of the Winshaw Legacy    Are these two women the same?   woman from cover of Tender is the Night

Sometimes there are books that you just read at the wrong time in your life.  I think this was the wrong time for me to read this book.  How could I relate to Dick Diver?  (Besides the obvious fact that he has one of the most unfortunate names in Literature)   I think that if I had read this book three years ago, or when I reread it three years from now, it will resonate better with me.

Or then again, maybe this is the absolute right time for me to read this book, and I don't want to admit it to myself.

I feel like I should say something about the book itself.   Everything you hear about Fitzgerald's writing is true; he is a very pretty writer.
